Email me the theme at joanbm3@gmail.com. I love the tips on this site, they are always to the point and just the information I was looking for. Its hard to find good content these days in the world of spam and garbage sites.

The duplicate content theory has been widely misleading. If you simple link back to the original article that is being duplicated, you as the owner of the original article will not get penalized, nor will the websites duplicating the content.

Google talks about this on their blog:

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2006/12/deftly-dealing-with-duplicate-content.html

-----Excerpt-----
Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, make sure they include a link back to the original article on each syndicated article. Even with that, note that we'll always show the (unblocked) version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer.
-----Excerpt-----

What they are pretty much saying is that they will determine the best article to show their audience, but since you are the original author and the links are going back to you, if your website is appropriate, you will most likely be the one they link to.

But the overall point of syndicating articles or content is not for search engine rankings, it is to increase the referral traffic going to your website from these sources. Since the point of all websites is to simply increase traffic and increase revenue (business websites), then anything that we can do to increase people going to the website will help.

I always stress to worry and concentrate on increasing traffic, user experience, and writing for the visitors instead of writing for the search engines, since in the end, the visitors are the ones buying your services.

Where a lot of search engine optimizers fall prey, is they start concentrating on writing and optimizing their website for search engines without thinking about the user in mind. The search engines don't buy anything, they just send traffic, if your website is well written and users love it, they notice this and send more traffic.

One rule of thumb I always use it to make sure the search engines, Google, or a particular traffic source never dominates my overall traffic generating plan. For example If I see Google sending me over 30% of my overall traffic, I know I need to concentrate on getting traffic from other search engines and web traffic sources. The reason being that I drop in rankings and get de-indexed from one source, I don't take a huge hit on my business. There are some online website getting as much as 80% of their traffic from Google, they are setting themselves up for a big lose if one day Google decides to not like them. No business can survives an 80% lose in sales, but that what happens when internet marketer concentrate on one source of traffic. What syndication does is allow us to increase websites sending us referral traffic, and keep the overall traffic stabilized so one one source is dominating us.

I try to keep my Google traffic at 30%, and overall search engine traffic to 50%, referral traffic to 40%, and direct to 10%. The only really way to do this is to increase my website's presence on other sites through syndication, viral marketing, etc. This allows me to not only get more targeted traffic, but in the end search engines see this and will start increasing your rankings as well. So it's a constant balancing act of increasing referral and direct traffic.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I will be more than happy to explain.

Thanks,
Adelard G.

It's a great article. As a marketing professional, I am wondering though--with so many Share tools, are you not going to run into the issue of duplicate content? Not all of the social bookmarking sites use nofollow, right?

Viral Marketing definitely gets you more qualified visitors which convert better into leads or sales from your website. The costs depends on the viral marketing campaign you want to run, for how long, and the resources necessary to properly implement a successful campaign.

That question is like asking how much is a car. Well it depends on what type of car you want, what features, packages, are you looking for a luxury car, sports car, collectors car, etc. There is no fixed price since each campaign is different in terms of targeted audience, how big you want to go - local, regional, national, or international, and how much resources is it going to take - man power.

If you have a specific idea or campaign in mind, contact us and we can get you a free quote.
